Re: finish mower and 8n

I have a 5' KingKutter behind my '45 2N..

Works great as long as you keep the grass short!!
Bogs down if grass is higher than say 3 inches..

Good point, more seat time!! :)

Re: finish mower and 8n

Should be no problem as I have used a 72" finishing mower behind my Jubilee for the past 10 or more years.
I will admit that the tractor sounds like it is lugging when cutting heavy tall grass, over the weeping bed for example.
But your horsepower is not that different than mine. An 8n should produce about 26hp and a jubilee around 30.
Try cutting in first gear if the grass is heavy and second if light. Remember you are not cutting with a bush hog that has lots of room for debris above the blades.

Larry I have a 48 8N and the exact finish mower. Been using it for 3 years and I mow in 3rd gear 90% of the time. If I let it get to tall I have to drop down into second. It does a great job. Never overworks or overheats.
Tom I run a 72" on a 9n. Your first problem is the grass is way to long and you r gonna burn a belt$$$. Grass that long should be mowed a few times. That grass is borderline brush hogging.
