I recently changed the head gasket on my 42 9N. Afterwards it started and ran fine but if I revved it all the way up & then down to idling it sputtered & died. I just checked all three screens in the fuel system and got the vent hole unplugged on the gas tank, any suggestions?

Clint, are you still getting antifreeze in the cylinders?

Jim, I don't think so but don't know exactly how to check. I hope you don't have to take the head cover off again. Before when I ran it there were definitely bubbles in the radiator and now thjere isn't so I'm hoping that changing the head gasket fixed that.

Clint, you can pull the spark plugs and look at them. All four should look the same, dry. But if you have one or two that are wet, sniff them to see if it's gas or, horrors antifreeze.

Jim, if it is antifreeze what is my next move? I cleaned the head cover and the block thoroughly before reinstalling the head cover and took a square to the block and head cover to see if it was warped and it wasn't. I also checked the piston sleeves for cracks and couldn't see any but i've learned that you can't always see them.
