Tractor dies
| Ron Murray | If I hold the chocke out the tractor will run. If I let it go it dies. The coil had oil in it where you plug the coil wire into. I changed out the coil now it is not firing. If Ii had a manual it would help but I dont know what year or model it is. |
| Bob G | a weak spark will cause it to run only with the choke pulled. There may be someone on this forum who will reconize what you have, Did you check out the id section at smith's web site? You also might waant to post your picures on the other ford forum onthis site. This one is mainly for the N series and you have one of the 100 series tractors. I just don't know them. Good luck |
| Ron Murray | Thanks for the advice. I have looked on Smiths site but no help. Are you saying this is not an 8N if so that is the start in the process of narrowing what it isn't. |
| Bob G | on the smiths site under id/history it will tell you where to find the serial number and then it shows what all the numbers mean s to model and year. The five speed first came out on the 600 series I believe. It was a option also in 4 speed. then you had a model with live pto and nonlive PTO. i will look at our pictures some moe and then look on smiths site to see if i can narror it down abit.

| Jim Loveridge | Ron, try cleaning the the coil wire hole on the old coil as best you can and put it back on to see what happens. If you asked for a coil for an 8N and yours is an 801 like it appears that may be why it wont start at all now.
