side mount distributor 8n
| Ron Ritchie |
8n running sluggish. stopped the tractor. looked at the points.they were burnt. put new point condenser, rotor and dist. cap. started the tractor heard a noise and the rotor and dist. cap broke. Had someone crank the engine while I watch the distributor and the whole distributor turned 360 and messed up the distributor cap hold down clips. Pulled the distibutor out and check it seems ok except for the hold down clips. Who has the best parts. I can find a distributor for 250.00. what would cause the whole distributor to turn?

You should have put new points in without changing the cap and rotor, new parts tend to be junk.Your new rotor hit the cap contacts and turned the cap and distributor. You have just learned that parts changing can cause trouble. You do not need a new distributor, replace the clips and put the old rotor and cap back.If the distributor turned you will have to set the timing.
