|Deon Osborn||My next door neighbor has a ford 555b backhoe. I'm an auto mechanic, but have never worked on a bckhoe before. The tractor has pleanty of power for the backhoe and the front loader, but it won't go into gear, neither forward nor reverse. Are there seperate pumps for driving the trans. and another for other hydrolic items? My neighbor said he first noticed the problem when the tractor was parked on an angle and was hot. After allowing the tractor to cool, and leveling it, he said that it would go into gear. Now it won't go into gear even when it's cool and level. Does this make sense to anyone? Any ideas would be much appreciated. Thanks! Deon in Mesa, AZ.
|Ron Drake||You haven't told us what transmission is in it?
That used to be a common problem on the older 4 speed transmissions and you usally had to split the tractor and replace some gears(mostly second)
sometimes removing the top cover and forcing the sliding forks would pop the transmission loose. We don't know what you have.
