| Paul Ward | I own a '57 Ford 850 and have purchased a used pto driven tiller for it. Should the three point hitch "push" down? I can put the draft control lever pointing up, horizontal or pointing down but I don't see any difference. When I lower the tiller, it drops to the ground but I see no indication that the three point hitch is applying any downward pressure. I usually have the draft control lever in the horizontal position but I can pull it to a vertical position or push it so it is pointing straight down. I don't see any difference in any of the positions. Is this normal? What should I see? Do you think something is broken? What might I check? Thanks, Paul Ward |
| toddh | Tractor hydraulics don't offer downward force and rely on gravity. Draft control is designed to lift the implement when a set amount of pressure is applied, such as a plow that does a nose dive.

| Paul Ward | So which direction should the draft control handle be in for "position" control? I can point my handle straight up, forward or straight down. I assume down is "draft" control. I don't have a manual to refer to. Thanks, Paul Ward |
| toddh | "Down" should be zero draft control. The farther "Up" you move the lever, the more sensitive the draft control should be provided it is functional. I believe the draft control senses pressure applied to the toplink. If the bottom of a plow "dug in" it would apply more forward pressure to the toplink, thus causing the draft control to lift the implement until the pressure was reduced to the sensitivity setting you selected with the draft control lever. |
