Distributor hex out of shape

Tony Eveland The hex end of my ford 800 distributor dose not appear to be hexed shaped on one side. Is there a clip that hold the hex shaft or is it just bad?
Any help apperciated.
Shaun Wallace There is no clip. the hexes do wear out. it drives oilpump.
