| Pete C | Hate to be pushy, but I put money down on a 3600 and am looking for input and inspection tips .. supposed to pick it up tomorrow (10/09) .. I have never owned/operated anything similar .. didn't confirm the year or get serial (duh!) but did a quick once over .. owner thinks it's late 70's, unknown hours, 3cyl Gas w/loader .. everything was functional .. started and ran smooth with maybe a hint of smoke on startup, some oil/grunge on engine but no big wet spots (actually drove buy 2 days ago and tractor was parked in same place, no stains underneath) 3pt, PTO, Bucket went thought the paces (w/ no load).. had a leak in one of the bucket arm cylinders (longer one, not bucket tilt).. this tractor also has the hyd res in the arm of the bucket, seems odd (but what do I know), any issues? seller was asking $4500, was willing to negotiate .. figure this is really a good price .. what should I look at closer, give extra precautions on ? TIA Pete C |
| dave o | pete. go to tractordata.com and punch in ford 3600, it will give you a good overview of the 3600 the last tab has prices for 2008 on tractors sold by dealers. 4500 sounds like a good deal. I dont know much about deisels, the oil on the cylinders is not a huge deal, might want to keep an eye on it down the road. I bought my ford 5 years ago knowing nothing about it. I have not regreted it. I have had minor problems but nothing to costly. A good tractor with a loader, to me, is priceless. Good luck.

| Pete C | Dave, thanks for the quick response .. after looking around a bit, I'm sure it's a good price .. been 'looking for something' for a while, have 7ac wooded prop that needs tending, nothing that should 'push' this tractor .. btw, it is gas (not diesel) more from my quick pass inspection .. rubber looked good, a little worn, but no cracks or rot .. owner thinks they're calcium loaded, is there a quick way to check? (other than removing and weighing?) .. not sure what's standard, but it has a locking diff (right heal pedal) .. also, since I only live 'bout 4 miles from the seller he was willing to follow me home (at least he trust the machine that far :) .. so what were some of the bigger "small problems" you had (and is your machine a similar 3600?) Thanks again .. |
| Pete C | also, any idea on the cost to fix the cylinder leak ?
|
| Pete C | one more also .. owner said one thing he thought the tractor lacked was rear hydraulics .. can this be added? what implements does this exclude? |
| dave o | pete, the biggest problem I have had with mine is the carburator. I reecently put on a new one made by zeinith and am very happy. being that it is gas when you go to pick up, throttle up quickly and pay attention to the responce. If it hesitates or cuts out, an adjustment may be needed, this requires a screwdriver and some patience. your manual will give you factory spects. A local mechanic ie. farm related, should be able to fix a cylinder and i dont recall it being much over 100 dolars. I have never heard of calcium filled tires. don't really now how to check. I use mine on my 4 acres and do alot of clearing. The hydrolics on the rear will only come into use if you are pulling attachments that have hydraulic wheels to raise it up, or a 3pt mounted log splitter. I have a 871 and it ws made in62-63 alittle older than yours but still a workin machine. Good luck today!

| hay | I don't quite understand what ya mean "lacked rear hydraulics". Are ya saying that it does not have remote hydraulic couplers for hydraulic only implements? If so, yes, it can be added.
|
| Pete C | Yes, that is what I meant (there are no hydraulics at the rear of the machine, only PTO and 3pt Hitch).. good to know that they can be added ..
|
| Lewis | Doesw it have power steering?
|
| Pete C | Yes it does have PS .. picked it up yesterday afternoon .. played a little to day to get familiar with it .. I'll try to get some pics ..
