ford select o speed
| kentuckyguy |
I have just bought a 1962 select o speed tractor.. The guy that I bought it from said that everything on it was in good condition.. I bought this tractor to run my 5 foot tiller.. i put the tiller on the tractor an tried it.. The PTO kicked in and when I dropped the tiller into the dirt it stopped turning.. I brought up the RPM on the tractor and nothing.. When I raised up the tiller it started spinning again.. I can ease it into the dirt and it will dig out that spot but when I start moving the tiller stops.. OK now my question is.. Is this a pressure problem or what?? Thanks

It may be the PTO lever not pulling out far enough the cable can be adjusted, a repair book is a big help I get one from the libary.

i have done the pto clutch on a 3000 select o speed not a fun job, the pack is at the back of the trans all parts in front ( bands, gears, etc...) must be removed to do it right. So check valve and pressure before diving into the trans. The tractor i did the pack on had the same problems as yours.

The PTO on your SOS runs off the hydraulic pump and yes it could be a presssure problem. does the pump work strong? there is a filter on the back of the pump (by the left floorboard) it has some orings where it connects to the pump that go bad and let it suck air.
