Heard of priming the hydraulic pump? How do I do it? Funny story trying

I just bought a nice Ford 3000 with a loader. I already own a 3000 without a loader. When I bought this one, the previous owner told me I need to re-prime the 3 point hitch hydraulic pump using an air compressor to pump pressure into the hydraulic reservoir hole in front of the seat. I did this. The arms jump straight up and then when I take the air line off of quick disconnect, an everlasting 8 ft. high geyser of hydraulic oil shot straight into the air covering my tractor and myself in oil. I should have known better. After turning the tractor off and then on, they still do not work. Any hope before calling my mechanic for a piston rebuild (right after I scrub my tractor with dawn.)
