5900 Ford diesel will not crank over
| Ben Kent | I have a 1986 Ford 5900 diesel tractor. It runs great, but will not turn over. The battery is fine and connections are fine. I think it is either a bad nuetral safety switch and/or some sort of burned out fuse. When the key is turned on, the lights on the dash light up. I was able to crank it a few times when this problem first occured by "shorting out" the solenoid to the starter, but now when I try that, I only get a tiny little spark and nothing. How can I trace down the actual problem? Can the neutral safety switch be bypassed in order the see if this is the issue? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Ben |
| Bobby | I'm having similar problems with my Ford 3000. Was cranking and running fine before I washed it down and painted it. Now it won't turn over. The battery is hot and connections are good. If you find out any possible solutions, please pass them on to me.
