Hydrostatic description?

Gene Is "hydrostatic power steering" the style that has a cylinder between the sector and the axle or is the power assist integrated in the sector?
Thanks,
Gene

MGS I would say that a hydrostatic power steering would be one that has a "hand pump" on the steering wheel and a cylinder on the drag link. It would have no mechanical connection between the steering wheel and the tie-rod linkages. An example would be the 66 and 86 series tractors. A typical car steering system would not be considered hydrostatic. Perhaps hydraulic boost would be more descriptive for that setup.
