IH 300 Hydralics reservoir

Jim Cieslak My brother and I are trying to "fix" my late fathers 300. We have absolutely no lift to the 3 point hitch, so we assume either insufficient fluid, or a leaky line somewhere. As silly as this sounds, we have been unable to locate the fill plug for the hydralics (we are probably staring right at it). Could someone point us in the right direction? Thanks, folks.

You don't say if it is a standard FARMALL model or if it is a utility model. If it is a FARMALL model you will find the resevoir behind and under the fuel tank, looking from the rear of the tractor towards the front on the right side of the resevoir you will see a square headed plug, that is the filler plug.Fill it to the top of the hole wiyh HY-TRAN fluid or a good grafde hydraulic oil.

Jim Cieslak Ed- that would be a 300 Utility model.

peter Speaking of the hydraulic reservoir: someone said the filter screen is under the heavy iron top. If I pull that off to look at the screen, do I need a special gasket to put it back?
