340 utility alternator

val my 340 has been converted to a one wire alternator, and my battery keeps going dead ,what should the output be reading on the ammeter, it is reading 12 when its running all the time. if i jump start it it will run fine all day,IS THIS BAD BATTERY OR ALTERNATOR
IHTimmy Take battery and alternator get them tested
John It sounds like you either have a bad battery or a short. If the amp meter is reading a positive number then it is sending a charge to the battery. If you shut the tractor off and try to start it right away what happins. If it doesn't turn over the battery is probably junk. Have it tested. If it's good something is wired wrong. A good diagram can be found for Ford 2n 8n. When I converted my u340 from 6volt posted ground to 12volt negative ground that's what I used for a wiring diagram.
