1941 H rear diff. question

Don McGowan I need to know how much oil goes in the rear Diff. in a 1941 IH H? also, is the oil the same as transmission fluid and is the rear diff. connected to the transmission or is it separate? We drained the rear end and it was a muddy sludgy consistency and always froze up in the winter. tanks in advance for any help. Don

jim Six gallons, 80-90 gear lube and transmission and final drives are all in one unit. Need to drain at front transmission drain also and fill to check plug on left side of transmission through filler plug near gear shift lever. I would flush with diesel fuel or kerosene by running it just a little with that in there. I usually add a little gear lube or oil to flushing liquid.
Don McGowan thank you Jim, we will give it a try.
