Farmall M for John M
|Frank||I have two questions, what would you suggest?
1. My ignition coil heats up after running about 5 minutes it starts to miss. When I shut it down, it's hard to start back up.
2. I take a test light, place lead on the ignition side of the coil, turn the ignition on, the test light lights up on both inside and outside the distributor and gives off an electrical shock.
|John M||1. 12 or 6 volt battery, 12 or 6 volt coil? If you have a 12 volt batt to a 6 volt coil, put a 12 volt coil on it.
2.Sounds normal if the points are closed.
What I think is your coil is bad.
|Frank||Thanks for the assistance on yesterday regarding the Farmall M. I have another question.
I have a 12 voltage battery, 12 voltage generator and 12 voltage coil,6 voltage points and 6 voltage condencer.
What can be done to cut the voltage to 6 volts going into the points?
|John M||No such thing as 6 volt points and condensor. They dont care what the voltage is. Ive run the same set of points in all of my tractors for years now, with no problems on 12 volt what so ever. if youre having problems burning points, the condensor is the culprit most of the time. think about it this way, whats the voltage on a magneto?
You could put a resistor inn line between the switch and coil if you want to, that will reduce the voltage to the coil, but you dont need it if youre running a true 12 volt coil.
