Putting in Fan Belt

Gerald I'm attempting to put on the Fan Belt on an International "M". Any ideas on how to loosen the top pulley and hold the fan blades at the same time? I hope that I am attempting to spread the pulley in the correct direction. When facing the tractor I am turning the wrench to the left. Is this correct? Thanks for any help you can give? Jerry
