Wont start

Aaron Linker 1977 International 444 diesel tractor started up and ran fine long enough to drive it up to my shop to put air in the tire. As soon as I pushed in the clutch started making some nasty knocking noise so I pulled the fuel shut off and shut her down. Now she won't even turn over, you can hear the starter engaging with the fly wheel but it won't turn it over. I fear the worst something let go in the engine but no obvious signs. Clutch still works because we tried to pull it and maybe free something up but no luck. Just wondering if anyone might have a good idea where to look first before I just start pulling parts off. Thanks guys
Hugh MacKay Aaron: I think you best get the wrenches out. Towing it and jumping clutch is probably going to break something not already buggered.
