460 farmall axle removal
|LBriss||Can anyone help with best way to remove
rear axle on 1959 Farmall 460. It is completely
|Leon||Drain oil. Jack up broken axle side and remove 4 bolt outer cover on axle housing. Remove PTO or PTO cover. Make a piece of metal to go between the 2 bull gear bolts. Loosen the bolt on the broken side and then put your piece of metal between the 2 bolts and unscrew the loosened bolt. If bolt comes all the way out and axle has still not released from the inner bearing, then start unscrewing the bolt on the good axle until it pushes the bad axle off of the bearing. If you want to inspect the inner bearing then remove the axle housing. If you don't want to work through the small PTO opening then remove the top cover.
Your help is appreciated.
