International 350 utility

curtis Trying to help my old timer neighbor, has what he believes is late 40s 350 utility tractor.Heres problem..he ran into sandbank when braking problem, now right front tire is out of whack, when turning steering wheel back and forth, left side is pretty tight, but right side tons of play and when jacked up theres lots of movement before steering wheel starts to move, gear box has 2 shafts, one each side for steering...any ideas?
mikant Sounds like the teeth on the right side steering box shaft might have broken.
curtis Thanks..one correction...guess utility was made 56-58...did notice last nite ...turning steering wheel to left we got to a point where all looseness in right side was gone, but when turning back to the left, right tire would suddenly flop loose..sound like broken teeth still?,.....is removing steering box and dismantling a major job?...do have mechanic experience
mikant Before you take it out, make sure the shafts, arms and body are marked with a chisel mark so that it can go back together correctly. The gas tank has to come out. Then the steering wheel and dash panel come off. You can get an exploded view if you go to caseih.com and find the parts lookup page. You will need a puller to get the steering arms off the shafts. I think 6 bolts and the box can come off. Remove the bolts holding the two halfs together and it should come apart. The gears are not available new, but new bushings and seals are. There are some adjustments that need ot be made when putting it back together if you make it that far. This is manual steering?
curtis This is power steering...no luck finding any parts...anyone got connections for a used box...was told i could switch to manual..would need all the pieces though..nice tractor..hate to have it just sitting there on him, bought manual and did find view on that website...been lookin for days..gotta be something out there...thanks for info..Curtis
curtis Decided we are going to tear apart...book says to totally dismantle steering column in disassembly section...is this neccassary? or can it be just removed at box itself..thanks again...Curtis
