Switching from gas to diesel in a JD 4400 combine
| Don | I have a gas 4400 John Deere Combine that's in great shape, but really uses a lot of fuel. I needed a 443 corn head for my gas combine, but it came with a 4400 diesel combine. The diesel motor runs great but the combine is in very poor condition. Has anyone ever changed motors in their 4400 combine over from gas to Diesel? How hard is it to do? Any main things to look out for.

| bontai Joe | I wish I had some helpful info, but I don't, other than to say be careful moving these engines around, they are heavy and you don't want any part of your body under them if it should fall.

| Charlie | We've never done a 4400 specificly but i'm thinking a major project. To start off with, probably motor mounts are different, you'll probably need to adapt and mount the diesel radiator, and complete fuel system. Crankshaft to ground drive will more than likely be different. Some wiring will be radicly different, and some of the guages will likely need changed out. I think a good place to start would be your local JD dealer and have a talk with the shop foreman. |
