what size batwing mower can i pull behind my massey 431 tractor. i have 300 acres to cut an a 6 ft bushhog not doing it.

I pull a 15 ft with a Kubota M4900 & a 21 ft with a New Holland 5610 S . Have been using this set up for years.

my manual for my massey 431 tells me that my pto is 46 hp , am i able to run a batwing mower and what size would you use.

Trey, that is about the same power of the Kubota M 4900. I am able to cut grass and weeds up to about 3 ft high, however I bush-hog monthly. If you are planning on cutting overgrown grass and weeds and small trees you are not going to handle a batwing sucessful except in very low gears. My kubota cuts aprox 4 to 5 MPH in normal cutting

Thanks for the input, I keep a pretty good cut on the feilds now but each 40 acres takes about 16 hours to cut with a 6 ft pull behind mower. I mow in low ranger 3 gear until i get to the heavy stuff and then slow down to 2 gear. i keep my pto rpm about 621 and tractor rpm about 1500 to 2000 rpm. pretty much og the small trees mowed down and I try not to let the grass get about 1 ft tall. So you think I will be ok with a batwing say 15 ft.

I am cutting Pensacola Bahai grass, s you know it is a very tough grass. I cut about four inches high with no problem. I think the minimum HP for a 15 ft batwing mower is 45 HP. So you can see you are at the very bottm of required HP. The Kubota is pulling the 15 ft batwing in High Fires or low fourth gear. If grass is extremely heavy I may have to down shift to low thirt to get through the rough parts. This set up will cut aprox 5 to 7 acre per hour. Hope this helps
