international 354

Hi,
I have an International 354 gas wheel tractor that works great, the only problem I have is when I engageing the pto for my howard tiller it grinds. When you try to engage the tiller, most of the time I have to forse it in,is there an adjustment that I can do to help fix this?

Thanks
Paul

Leon The only adjustment is the engine clutch. Whether you have a dual clutch or single clutch you didn't say. It's possible that the clutch is sticking or oil soaked. But if it keeps grinding to engage, you will eventually have to put a in a new coupler and possibly a PTO shaft.

I was wondering because my clutch pedel dosen't come all the way up,it has maybe three inches of free play at the top,The main box shifts fine it's only the pto.I don't know if the clutch is a single or duel. Can the main clutch be adjusted?.

I just recently bought this tractor at an estate sale, I will check the clutch tomorrow to see if it is oil soaked or out of adjustment?. What is the coupler? and where is it ?
I know were the pto shaft is in the back of the tractor, are they hard to change out?
Thanks again
Paul

Leon Hey Paul,

The clutch can be adjusted only through the pedal. 3" of free play could be causing your problem. Pick up and I&T IH-201 shop manual and it will tell you how to adjust you pedal. Sounds like you have dual clutch since the transmission shifts fine but the PTO grinds.

The coupler, which International calls a "splined clutch" is what moves back and forth inside the tractor when you move the PTO shifter to engage the rear shaft. I believe it generally requires the removal of the top cover to replace.

Paul Thanks Leon
I'll try to adjust it today
