HELP: 8N Head Needs To Be Removed
| Don Dodson | I got a problem! I want to remove the head off my 8N. After removing all nuts, trying to lift head off the head won't budge. I am not sure if something else would be holding the head on that I am not aware or not. To the best of my knowledge, the head has never been removed and definately not by me. Any help you'all can provide would be appreciate. Thanks, Don |
| Leon | Count your bolts/nuts, should be 18 of 'em. Sometimes those heads just get stuck, most likely on the studs. Use a non-metallic hammer or a hammer and a piece of wood and lightly beat up on front of the head where the radiator hose connects to. That should loosen it up. -Leon |
| Don Dodson | Leon: Thanks for the info. Just another DUMB question....when you say "studs" what are these and where are they located. I told you it was a dumb question. Oh well just bear with me. Thanks again, Don |
| Leon | A stud is a bolt with a removable head, the head is called the nut. check this picture out: http://www.classicchevy.com/images/CCI/24-06.jpg Some 8n's use bolts to hold the head on and some use studs and nuts. When you pull your head off this it what it will look like if you have studs: http://ww2jeeps.com/engblk/GP-Ford/gp14935top.jpg If you have bolts this is what it will look like: http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/jj159/JCMMurphy/MVC-008F.jpg |
| Don Dodson | Leon: Now I got it!!!! Again thanks for the info. I walking out the door with my sledge hammer and 6x6 now. Wish me luck! Thanks again. I will keep you posted as to the results I will or will not achieve. Don

| versatile | i have read that you can loosen a head up by cranking the engine over after you loosen the bolts a bit but not removed.
