|george||would like ignition spec. for satoh 4cyl. gas engine.plug gap? point gap? timing ?1979 satoh S-550G any help would be appreciated.
|Bob||George, the specs on these engines are very simple, the points are .017 to .020 the plugs are .035 and thye timimg is just below the ping under a load, this means that the engine will ping or rattle during lugging, you should retard the time till the ping just stops pinging, this is the only way to get an accurate timing on it as the fuel octane is why it pings, when this engine was made it had a higher octane in regular gas , therefore the timing will be to far advanced if you set it by factory specs, so the ping is the only way you can accurately gage the timing. A hint for you, in 10 gals of gas you can put 1 qt of #1 kerosene and this will boost the octane of the gas, if you will get a small bottle of STP gas treatment or octane booster, or fuel injector cleaner or anything that says, its a petroleum distillant, you will find that all it is, is #1 kerosene, and yes it will boost the octane and wont bother the polution controls on a computerized auto.
|terry ledford||i have a cracked head on an exaust and now a blown head gasket. the easiest thing for me is to get another engine to put in. is there any list to get that tell if the housing matchup.
