tractor storage

bx24d --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm looking at upgrading from my sub compact tractor to a compact tractor in the near future. Depending on which compact I choose, I might not be able to fit it in the space I have in my barn.

I'm wondering what effect there is from outside storage in Connecticut. Is there a difference if it has a factory or aftermarket cab vs. none? Does it shorten the life or increase the frequency of mechanical problems? Are there any outside storage precautions to take if I keep it outside?

oldfarmer We parked our tractors outside in S. Dak. all the time, but we used them often, so they were out in the elements anyway. In the winter we tried to put them in a shed so they would start if we needed them. Mostly they only got sun damage, but it took years for that to happen. Any cab would protect the cockpit area from rain, snow. Long exposure to rain snow would accelerate tendences for rust to start in some areas of the tractor, again it would take years for that to happen. Mostly cosmetic. If you want to keep a pretty tractor build a leanto next to the Barn and park it under that. Tractors were built to be outside, should not affect maintenance, except maybe more greasing of the exposed moving parts.
