I am having trouble with my craftsman kohler 15.5hp engine. I am having to hold the fuel line (where the fuel filter is) below the carb in order for fuel to flow through the filter. If I drive the tractor up hill, it always shuts off. Sometimes on level ground it shuts off also. It appears that the engine is not drawing the fuel through the carb on its own. I even tried cracking the gas cap open to aid the engine. Any ideas?

it is a problem most people over look and very common with all lawn tractors you have water in the fuel tank. the water is heavier than the fuel so it goes to the bottom of the tank fuel sits on top it will let a small amount of fuel flow but its not enough to keep the fuel filter full try draining the tank and dry it out the refill with fresh gas. and replace the filter make sure you put the filter on with flow going in the right direction and that should fix it . if not you may have to clean the carb bowel also .

I am having the same problem. I don't have a solution yet. On another note, the steering on my tractor has gotten very sloppy. I can turn the steering wheel about 45deg. before the wheels start to meove. Have you got this problem?
