Pony Motor
| John Nolen | I need help in adjusting the clutch from the pony motor to the main diesel engine. This is the clutch that is engaged BEFORE the pony motor is started. It will not snap in.
| John Nolen | Oops! Forgot to say that the machine I requested help on is a D4 Cat Crawler tractor, 7U series. It is about a 1953 model.
| hector gemme | For adjusting the cluch remove the oil plate ans insert a short srew driver in the opening and turnthe cluch adjusting collar until the lock pin can be reached and engage the startor pinion.Pry out the lock pin and tighten by turning the collar away from the diesel engin until the lock pin drop into the nexthole.Test the adjustement by engaging the cluch if one hole gives a slightly loose adjustement and the next gives to tight an adj use the looser adj.

| John Nolen | Thanx for the tip Hector but can you tell me where the oil plate is located?
| hector gemme | The plate is on the housing and she has 2 srews and near the cluch lever.
| John Nolen | Thanks again Hector for responding but I believe we are not on the same page with this. I believe that the plate you refer to is for the clutch lever that is shoved forward to start the big diesel moving. The lever I am having trouble with is the one that is engaged even before the pony motor is started. When the big engine starts, this lever kicks automatically kicks out. You have to snap it in place before the pony motor is started and it won't stay in. I simply cannot find a place to adjust it. I would appreciate it if you would reply again on this. Thanx |
| hector gemme | HI I am sorry about my mistake and I never adjusted a pinion and am not sure but the spring should be brooken bethwen the 2 latches on sleeves and should be why he is not snapping and should have a adjustement just for désnapped. I am not a mechanic men just try to help |
| john nolen | Can anyone tell me how old my cat is? The serial number is 7U9640.
