hyd oil level

bill ganley when checking hyd oil level on my case 580c is it done running not running, hot or cold. Also how much trouble is it to remove hyd sight glass, is there a gasket?
thanks,
bill ganley

AJ Engine stopped, front bucket flat on the ground, hoe bucket flat on the ground, stick straight,ie cylinders approx half way,the oil level will will alter depending on if the cylinders are open or closed so half way is a happy medium,I think its an o'ring that is on the sight gauge.
AJ

bill ganley thanks AJ, you do mean half way on sight glass? And not sure what you mean by stick straight and cylinders half way.
thanks for your help,
bill ganley

AJ Half way up the glass is correct,by the stick straight I mean the dipper stick is vertical.
AJ

bill ganley thanks AJ,and also should outriggers be up?
AJ Just on the ground, check with the oil cold, that system holds approx about 12 gls,a couple of quarts either way will not do any harm.
AJ
