Removing Backhoe

David Stump Hey everyone. I'm considering buying a 580 and I have a question. I don't expect to use the hoe nearly as often as I use the loader, and it seems that the tractor would be much more clumsy with the hoe still attached. How difficult is it to remove the hoe? I'm assuming that without the hoe you will need counterweights.
AJ The backhoe comes off, there are a dozen different 580's which have you got,you will need a counter weight.

David Stump I don't know for sure which model it is, yet. It is a family friend that has the tractor and I haven't yet taken a look at it, but I would guess it to be a mid to late 70's model.
AJ Probably a C series, the important thing to remember is that the two lines that go to the hoe control valve have to be connected together when the hoe is off,if the machine is factory standard it will have one quick break coupling on the return line at the valve and another on the feed line over the diff, the return is unplugged from the valve and plugged onto the feed over the diff, then the tail piece that is still on the valve will plug onto the valve return, before doing that undo the two big nuts holding the top clamps, with the stablizers down the hoe is lifted up till it clears the bottom anchor points, the dipper stick should be at about 30° out from been vertical, stop the engine and uncouple the hoses from the valve and connect them together, don't go under the hoe till you have it blocked up properly.
