case 580b fuel problems
| mike | Having problems starting. Backhoe has been sitting for a couple of years. Installed fully charged battery. Partially filled tank with new fuel, then opened fuel shutoff valve at bottom of tank. I then cracked fitting at inlet to fuel pump. There was flow there plus i waited for clean fuel came out. Retightned then cracked fitting at injectors then started cranking engine but could not get flow to injectors. Help is there something else i can and need to do.

| AJ | That sounds as the metering valve in the injector pump is stuck in the stop position, you will need to take the top cover off and free it,the metering valve is connected to the throttle by a spring for to allow the governor to do its job,if the valve sticks the spring justs expands rather than move the valve, the stop pushes the valve to the stop position using a cam,it just pushes but does not pull it back so even though the stop lever is in run the valve can be in stop, when parking diesels with a pull stop it's a good idea to push the stop back back and put the throttle on full, then if the valve sticks it will stick in the run position.
