580B gradual loss of power shuttle torque
| Eric Lee | My 580B backhoe farm tractor has been loosing transmission torque for several years, initially noticeable in higher gears and when cold. Eventually it would not move when cold, but rock forward and back when the shuttle was shifted, regaining usable torque as the oil warmed (I'm in Arizona so it was never really cold). Even when warm, there was marginal torque when going up a slope. I haven't used it for some months, and now even warm I get no usable torque. In neutral enough pressure builds up that the tractor will move a foot or so when the shuttle is taken out of neutral, then the pressure drops and there's no discernible torque. I have the service manual. Any suggestions as to where I should start? There seems to be a lot of possibilities. The nearest Case shop is 80 miles away and just taking the tractor in and giving them my first born son is something the wife is unlikely to approve of. |
| AJ | That sounds like the charge pump is going weak or not getting oil, there is a strainer on the pick up pipe that might be blocked, the only way to get to it is remove the top cover and valve from the shuttle, the pump comes out with the cover,if the strainer is clean have a look at the inside of the pump for ware, there is an aftermarket one for 730 plus.
