|george||I recently got a wheelhorse 856 with the motor
semi apart. It came with a generator and ignition
coil. However the 8 hp motor has a spark plug
wire and two charging wires comming out ftom
behind the flywheel. I crank it and there is no
spark. Why the extra parts, and do I have to
pull the flywheel to check for an internal coil?
|KEN BANGERTER||THE ENGINE MANUFACTURER'S SITE SHOULD GET YOU TO THE WIRING DIAGRAM. YOU CAN REASONABLY EXPECT THE SMALLER GAGE WIRE IS THE GROUND FOR THE IGNITION COIL, USUALLY GROUNDED THROUGH A SWITCH THAT ALLOWS OPENING THE GROUND TO KILL THE ENGINE. TRY GROUNDING EACH WIRE AND SEE IF ONE GIVES YOU IGNITION. WIRE THAT TO GROUND THROUGH A SWITCH.
OF COURSE, THE ENGINE MAY HAVE BATTERY IGNITION, NOT MAGNETO IGNITION, IN WHICH CASE YOU WOULD HAVE TO PROVIDE 12 VOLTS, MOST LIKELY TO THAT WIRE TO GET SPARK. IF YOU HOLD THE WIRE WITH WET FINGERS AND TURN THE ENGINE OVER SLOWLY, AND THEN GET A BIT OF A JOLT, THE ENGINE HAS MAGNETO IGNITION.
|thomas||what you want to do is buy one of those screw drivers that turn when u hit it with a hammer then turn the fly wheel till you see a hole and in there u will find a flat head screw put ur screw driver in it and beat it till the screw comes out.
