|mitch||I have recently ran across a gilson lawnmower c-10 if anybody has any information about this tractor it would help me out.My email is any thing would be helpful.
|kevin||I just bought a Gilson C-10 about a month ago. I've dug up a little information on Gilson, but there isn't much. They were built for Montgomery Wards and that's about all I could find on Gilson Brothers company. The C-10 came with either a Briggs or Kohler motor. Mine has the old cast iron Briggs 10 horse (I believe that's why it's a "C-10" model) and the factory single-stage snowblower. I can't believe how big the crank case is (lots of torque)!!!
Mine also has a starter/generator which are very valuable. It's like a car alternator with a starter in it, so it just turns the crank to start it up and once it is running it charges the battery. Very cool!
If you are thinking about getting one, YES, DO!!!
They have a geared transmission (super low-geared), a HUGE rear axle, a HUGE front axle, a HEAVY frame, and are quite collectible. I'm going to use mine to plow snow and make some money this winter and maybe restore it sometime. I'm also thinking about fabricating a back-blade also.
