Fuel Pump

michael z. I bought a 190 XT that sat for awhile, it had been started and let run but never used. I got it home and started using it and now it will run for about 15 minutes and start losing power and shut off. A mechanic told me it might have build up in the fuel pump that has loosened up. What is the fix for this problem.
Mark 1. I assume it is diesel, there are 2 fuel pickups in the tank, take sediment bowl assemblies from tanks and make sure pickups are clean.
2. Make sure return is free flowing if it has a restriction it will shut it down too.
3. On those lines there is a checkvalve on the top of the pump from a return line, it is a glass ball. Remove and inspect check valve for foriegn material. If pump is coming apart it will plug this.
4. Check plunger pump check valve (used for priming the fuel system)
