|Les Lane||I recently acquired an Allis Chalmers 5050 and cannot get the 3 point hitch adjusted so that it does not oscillate up and down. I have changed the fluids, cleaned the filter, tried adjusting the sensitivity adjustment, etc. As the 3 point on the tractor had not been in use for a few years before I got it, I assume it may be old and crusty but the fluids I drained were pretty clean. Any ideas? I do have all the factory manuals and have tried everything mentioned except pulling the housing and reconditioning the whole thing.
|Mark||Piston that lift three point has a leak and will raise normally till desired level is reached then it will "hickup" at that position. It is caused by an internal oil leak at piston.
|Les Lane||Hi Mark!
Thanks for the information. Is that a big job to replace/rebuild the lift assembly or piston/ring/seal? I've never had one of these apart but am willing to give it a shot if it doesn't require removing real axle assy or something major and heavy. Do you have an idea what a repair facility would would be looking at in hours to fix it? The tractor is of no use to me as it is and I have too much invested in it not to fix it so I'm between a rock and a hard spot here.
