D17 Series I pros/cons
| dan pearce | I've had Fords all my "tractor life", but am seriously looking at a D17 Series I with an add-on 3pt. hitch. Everything works, metal straight as it can be, hydraulics are fine, just needs a little TLC. For those experts out there, please give me the low-down on the differences (other than cosmetic) between the Series I, II, III & IV. Problems with the Series I, etc. Tractor price is $2500, includes 6ft bush hog & 6ft grader blade, delivered. Seems like a good deal.

| rich4 | My opinion, it is a good deal, the later series had some improvements, but if it works well, it would be a good tractor. They are a solid running tractor, the price is cheaper than an early ford but will run circles around it.

| Max(ia) | Series I and II are about the same. SeriesIII had the oval muffler and lights on the fenders. Series IV like the III except had life Hydraulics where the belt pulley was. All were about 50 hp. Check for jumping out of gear (3rd), make sure the Power Director works good, doesn't slip or jump out. |
