8050 powershift
| dave hunter | Reverse in my 8050 is not right. It backs up fine alone, but with a heavy load behind it won't. Is there two clutch packs in the tranmisson? How hard is it to get to? Any ideas?

| Allis in Wonderland | Dave: The first thing to do is to pressure check the hydraulic oil going to the reverse clutch packs via external ports and a hydraulic gauge. If I remember correctly, there are 6 clutch packs: A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, and C2. If you can locate an I-T manual, it will tell you which pair of clutch packs are applied for reverse. If the pressures aren't right, my guess is a blown o-ring or burnt up clutch disks. Replacing them would involve splitting the tractor under the cab. Good luck.

| Billy Bob | I wouldn't tear into the transmission just yet. Could just be a problem with the powershift valve on the side of the transmission. Maybe the linkage is in need of adjusting or a spool is sticking within the valve. Either one could be restricting the amount of oil going to the reverse clutch packs. Sometimes the torque limiter can slip, but it will cause problems with more than one gear. A pressure check might be a good idea.

| Allis in Wonderland | I think Robert's been smoking some wacky Injun Tobaccy.
|
| Billy Bob | Maybe it was wacky engine tobaccy. He might have inhaled too much diesel exhaust.

| Jerry | Robert is a 'bot', initiating a check/money order scheme. If this were in fact a thread for something to buy, you would be sent a forged check or money order for more than agreed, by several decimals. You would then be contacted to cash the note, and just send the difference back. Some people actually fall for this scam. |
