| tom tipton | Do you know if the front axle setup is the same as my massey ferguson 1030? I think both of these tractors were made by the same manufacture ( grey tractors manufactured by hinomoto, and maybe even similer to the hinomoto model E2304/ E2308 ). Mine is about 1984 - 85 year MF 1030 and I have broken the front axle r/h side yoke ( cv joint inside housing out at the steering pivot point ) and I am having a hard time finding a part to replace. Don't know if yours is the same, but there is a differential in the front axle center section and it would seems normal for the wheels to spin in opposite directions if the front was jacked with both wheels clear of ground, thats the way a non positrack diff works. If both wheels spin when turning one wheel, I would look at the differential or input to it. Did you say when driving with 4 wheel engaged, one front wheel goes one way and the other goes the other way? That part seems odd. Could it have a stripped gear in the differential center section that would let one side drive and the other side idle? Thanks for posting, maybe I will learn somthing also. Tom |
| danny | what i was trying to explain is that the front seems to be working ok,when jacked up if you spin one wheel the other spins the other way.this would lead me to believe that the front is ok. even while it is jacked up and you engage the 4 wheel drive if you spin one wheel the other spins the other way.it seems to me like the 4 wheel drive isnt engaging .I caint tell if the drive shaft is turning because it is inside a steel tube that runs from the rear to the front.does it matter if it is in high or low range.?

| Richard | Danny, Did you ever solve why your 4WD was not working on your AC 5020. I have the same problem on mine and don't know whether the problem is in the front differential or where the shift lever activates the 4WD under the seat. Any suggestions from anyone would be appreciated. |
| Charlie | I have the same unit with a complete service manual. The 4 wheel drive seems to be working ok, however I am getting oil leaks on the front units. I checked the oil level last fall and they were low, so I filled them to the check level. I am guessing that there are seals failing. Anyone ever have those issues? Guess I will have to delve into the service manual to see how hard it is to replace the front seals.
