WC hand brake modification

Tim Hello, i have a 1940 WC that i bought for 500 with a good running motor and PTO hydraulics and loader.I replaced the brake linnings and wondered if one reversed the brake band and cam assembly that they attach to on the hand lever, that they would then be able to push them away from you and tighten the brake band around the drum as normal. The idea is that you could then shorten the hand lever into a foot brake. Has anybody already done this and does it work?
Thanks
