Craftsman 917.275041 GT 23hp Kohler
|TractorNoGo||I have a 23 hp Craftsman GT model 917.275041, hydrostatic transaxle. This tractor was running fine, then suddenly just died. My son thought he ran out of gas. Gassed it up, turned the key and absolutely nothing.
Clutch switch was off. depressed brake/clutch, seat depressed, nothing.
one thing I noticed was that the transaxle would not disengage when the lever in the rear was pulled out.
I'm wondering if there is a common transaxle failure here?
|rcbe||prolly best to start at edge... remove batt and have it LOAD tested by capable shop to know it's OK. Clean to bright metal the cable ends where they attach to batt posts.
Next, remove spark plugs - try to turn engine by hand to confirm not mechanically locked up. if OK, put plugs back in and try to start normally.
If engine turns over with starter, but does not begin running, remove carb air cleaner and spray several shots of rattlecan carb cleaner directly into carb throat while cranking engine. If engine pops or tries to run, you have a fuel delivery problem.
Query Son to see if he struck something that suddenly killed the running engine. If so, flywheel key may have been fully/partially sheared messing up timing.
Hydro not disconnecting - park brake may have still been set; sometimes linkage going into hydro is stiff (used rarely); or just rocking tractor forward/backward by hand may help disconnect to actuate. But tranny should NOT be directly related to no engine start.
post back if still trouble with all detail available... Good luck.
