The 265 Massey Ferguson was purchased by my wife's late father when he retired around 1977 and he used it up until about four weeks ago to bushhog a little. Its actual hours are 1226.
I grew up on 801 Fords and my father's last tractor was a 4600 so the Massey Ferguson line is new to me.
My starting question has to do with the 1000 hour valve adjusting. Is this something that most do and if you have done it did you find them tight, loose or on spec?
On the 265 it seems like one has to skin it and strip off the fuel tank to even get to the valve cover. Having used the tractor a few times over the years and knowing its history I know it has not had the valves adjusted on it.
While it is not cherry by any means I think it is a solid tractor with a few oil leaks after 33 years. :) I plan to go over it A to Z in the coming months and have order some more detailed shop/parts manuals. I do not plan to get deep inside the drive train but after 33 years I do want to insure it gets a detailed servicing.
Thanks.
