I had a similar situation with my MF35. The battery wires became hot and I eventually burned out the starting motor. I replaced the solenoid but that wasn't the problem. I eventually replaced the starting switch, rebuilt the starter and I have had no problem since. I surmise the switch kept the starter working until it burnt out.
