In Reply to: Which lawn tractor for $900-1000 (Huskee vs Sears...) posted by Seval Gunes on Wednesday, May 08, 2002:

I just bought a 23 HP 46 inch cut Huskee from Tractor Supply Company, for 1,500.00 and it came with a free line trimmer.
I had tried to purchase a 16.5 Hp 42 inch cut Craftsman from Sears the same day, and none of the 3 stores here in the Nashville area had the one I wanted in stock, and it was going to take about a week to get one.
I stumbled onto TSC by accident, but liked what I saw.
I don't really need one this big, but I am a long time mechanic, and have always believed the less you overwork an engine, the longer it will last. I could find no differences in the construction quality between the Huskee and the Sears.
Sears might be a bit above them in styling, but how long does it take to start getting used to something like that anyway? Oh, and the Sears mower had a cup holder. The Sears one also had 3 pedals, two on the right (brake and hydrostatic drive) and one one the left, not sure what it was for. But, I liked the Huskee having only 2 pedals, one brake, the other hydro. drive, just one less control to keep up with, in my opinion.
The Huskee has a comfortable high back seat, pedal hydrostatic drive, 3 blade mower deck, with mulching blades standard, pressurized oil system with oil filter, cast iron front axle with grease fittings, and cruise control! I love it. They have other smaller ones in the 1,000 price range too.
