Contrary to what you heard, the new L series John Deere's are NOT made by AYP.
I have and L120 to mow 1.5 acres and all mulching. Includes 25-30 degree inclines which this machine handles flawlessly and without any trouble. I will be using it for snow removal this winter with a 46" blade. Also mulching leaves in fall.
This unit has a 48" deck, and 18" turning radius, so what you have to consider is the fact of having lots of trees, it may not be suitable for your purposes. Although I am confident in its ability to handle your proposed applications, you may want to consider something with a smaller deck 38"-42" and shorter turning radius.
Depending on what you wish to spend there are many capable lawn tractors out there to do the job you want to do, but you need to take time to research the different makes and models and compare the features and capabilites. Above all don't just pick something and say thats the one. Go and look at them, set on them, ask questions you have in mind that you want to know. The one that gives you the biggest smile is probably the one you'll end up with :).
Good Luck,
Jim
