Sounds to me like maybe the ignition switch. It sounds like its giving power to the coil as long as the key is in the starting position. I would also check incase there's fuses. As for having nothing happen now when you turn the key i would think the solenoid. It should click even if the starter is dead. I would check the wire wires with a test light or multi-tester.
