Of course the Kohler would be a much better engine, however I have had a craftsman 12 hp with a briggs for 12 years and have had excellant usuage. I change the oil 2 times a summer. This one has the electric clutch and the tension spring is the only thing I have replaced on the deck. Same belts, and tires that came on it. For the money, they are hard to beat.
