I am going to buy a new riding mower and there are two things I definitely want; A kohler engine and and automatic transmission. I've read where many people say to spend the extra and buy a John Deere. That's simply out of my budget right now. I've narrowed my search to two mowers, a 2002 Scotts 17.542 which has a 17.5 hp Kohler engine and a Craftsman LTX1000 which with an 18 hp Kohler engine. Both have automatics with 42" mower deck. I really like the Scotts model better because I'm tall and it seems more comfortable for me. The Craftsman is on sale right now so it's $200 less than the Scotts. Since I don't know much about the quality or user friendliness of either, my question is this, "Is it worth the extra $200 to buy the Scotts mower over the Craftsman?". Thanks.
