Does it run ok now? Sounds like your description of an oil change is pretty good. I wouldn't waste oil by flushing it out, unless you see something while draining it that is very unusual. New oil, a new air filter, a new spark plug and if you really want to go all the way, a new set of points for the ignition. This is a "K" series Kohler, a remarkably well built reliable engine, that you will discover likes to shake a lot at idle. Since it's an internally splash lubricated motor, it's best to run at or near full throttle to get the oil everywhere it needs to be.
