hard time getting mower in gear

I have a weedeater 12.5 ride on lawn mower.about four years old.Recently when I depress the clutch ,lawn mower won't go into gear.I have to let the clutch go and open and depress it three or four times before I can get it into gear.I checked my manuel,but it doesnt tell you how to adjust the clutch.Also,can't locate brake adjustment.Any assistence would be appreciated.Thanks
